Which Beaches are Dog Friendly in Lanzarote?

As the owner of a pet, you know the uncertainties that come with vacations. Do you leave them behind or do you bring them with you?

After all, they are family members too and would probably enjoy a break from the norm as much as you.

So, let's have a look at the options when bringing your furry friend to Lanzarote, either for a vacation or for a longer stay!

Canine Friendly Coastlines in Lanzarote

Pets love to enjoy the coastline just as much as we do, especially dogs who love to roll and dig around in the sand or take a dip, of course. As a visitor to the island with your dog, you need to be aware that there are only two beaches in Lanzarote that allow dogs to roam freely. One with opening times and one without.

Playa de las Coloradas

First up, we have Playa de Las Coloradas, or Playa El Afre, located in the town of Yaiza in the south of the island. There are over 400 meters of beaches and 150 meters designated as a dog-friendly beach with a sandy, gravelly coastline.

With waters that are both tranquil and clean, you and your dog will love exploring (and scampering around) to your heart's content.

This coastline does not offer many services, but it provides plenty of scenic calm for you and your dog to enjoy. The opening times are from 07:00 to 10:00 hrs in the morning and then 19:00 to 21:00. There are just a few regulations to be aware of.

It's not possible to feed pets on the beach, and it's obligatory to pick up after your dog.

Bear in mind also that dogs of potentially unsafe breeds (PPP) are also required to be on their leash and muzzled.

Playa de Guacimeta

The second dog-friendly coastline in Lanzarote is Playa de Guacimeta, located near the Lanzarote airport by Playa Honda, near San Bartolomé. It is a sandy beach with tranquil waters, welcoming owners and pets to enjoy. There are several terraces along the coast and promenade with bar and food service for a great day at the beach.

Presently, 165 meters of coastline are for pets with no time limits. As with the other beach, there are a few regulations to be respected. On one side, dogs of potentially harmful breeds (PPP) are required to be leashed and muzzled for safety reasons.

On the other hand, every pet must wear a leash when they are not in the water. The pet must be supervised without disturbing the rest of the people.

It goes without saying that owners are responsible for picking up after their dog and using the appropriate bins.

Conclusion

Lanzarote has a great love for 4 legged furry friends and in fact the Canary Islands dont get their name from the fethered 2 legged type but from Canines!

So just remember to follow the regulations and everyone from your dog to you can enjoy this wonderful island to its fullest.
