Named after the Genoese navigator Lancelotto Malocello, way back in 1312, it was original known as Tyterogaka. It is thought that he voyaged in search of a previous expedition that mysteriously disappeared about 20 years beforehand.


He then stayed in Teguise, Lanzarote for a further two decades where records show he had built a fortress, so he was certainly a man who meant business!


Nowadays you don't have to be a sailor of the high seas to visit Lanzarote of course, but you can still find adventure to suit all tastes.
